Getrag locked in first!
I took my 89 D-350 down today to get a new windshield put in and when they were done the shifter had locked in 1st gear. I had to drive 2 miles home at 12 MPH.
Is there any special magic to fix this and prevent it from happening again in the future?
Thanks
Edwin

These are top loader transmissions and you can pull the gear shift actuator up to be able to reach in and line up the shift rails so it is where it belongs again.
The most common failure is the top cover pin. It wears and will allow the shifter to back out just enough to slide out of the rail guides. A replacement pini kit is $20. Here is a reference for a repair kit:

I'll check it out tomorrow assuming I feel up to it. I think I got the flu or something.
