gear puller for ip

is there a "special"puller or a simple unit that uses the cover as a base to pull from like a small steering wheel puller etc. I am thinking my ip took a dump since it showed the 0216 code today but it only smokes wjite for 30 seconds on the odd start and seems to be holding its power well. I want o be ready when this thing goes south.

The lift pump is electric and fully self-contained, and takes no special tools. Just do a fuel pressure test to be sure it is the lift pump before you jump.

RCW "ip" means injection pump as vp 44 and yes it does take at least a gear puller to remove the pump gear I am trying to find out if it can be done without a expensive say snap on tool. Anybody??

I just use a steering wheel puller that I have here, I do have a couple of different sizes. If I remember right, I had to purchase a couple of bolts for it to get the right length. Leave the nut on loose to catch the gear and use some protection for the cam shaft, like the little cap that comes on the puller.
