Fuel system air bleed 1993 5.9

fuel system air bleed 1993 5.9

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi there,

I am new to the diesel world and messed up my first simple job. I changed the fuel filter on my 1993 5.9 and did not fill the filter prior to installation. It fire up then died after all fuel was gone in the system. I read the manuel and it said to prime the lever on the fuel pump for low pressure bleeding. I did that but still would not fire up. I know there is air in the system and needing help how to bleed so I can get rolling again. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Simple enough, not sure of the nut size on a first gen, but at the Injector, crack the nuts loose on the first 3 and spin her over until either you get fuel coming out, or she fires, tighten them and have a nice day driving!

Make sure you primed the low side well, I am not sure how you tell on a first gen, you might want to go to the first gen section and ask there.

down low below the filter is a lift pump ,looks like one from older cars but has a small handle ,just above the filter is a bolt with a smaller bolt in the center 10mm open the small bolt pump that handle until fuel come out if you dont feel like the pump is working you might have to bump the starter to get the cam lobe off the high point or your lift pump is bad. once fuel comes out close small bolt crack 3 injector lines and crank engine over till you get fuel at the injectors close the lines and it should start .
you might have to have help sometimes they can get stubborn and you will need to crank and close the lines as it starts .it might run ruff for a bit but that will go away as soon as you drive it good luck
