fuel problems and some newb stuff
Hey all,
I'm hoping I can get some help with an issue I am having with my truck. Some of this is repost from earlier, but after what I have read in the forums I have several new questions.
The truck is an 04 2500 4x4 CTD 6 spd 51k miles
This morning my truck stalled on me as I pulled into my driveway. after cranking for a few seconds it fires up again, runs for a few seconds, and stalls. What little I do know about diesels hasn't seemed to help much. I changed the fuel filter. It fired right up and ran fine for about 20 minutes then stuck me in the middle of town with its stalling routine. After doing some reading on tis site I pulled the error code and it comes up as a P 0628 "P0628 Fuel Pump Relay Control Circuit Low Voltage".
What does that mean?
So as I continued to read(and please correct me if I am wrong in this), I found out that if this is caused by my lift pump then I could soon be experiencing some serious problems with my injector pump. I am assuming at this point it is the lift pump. What should I do to try and protect the fuel system and the truck from costly trips to the dealer in the future and does anybody have an idea as to what I should do to fix it? If I change the lift pump(which I assume is attached to the back of the filter canister) do I need to do anything specific to re-prime the motor?
Sorry for all the questions, this is my first diesel pickup. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Tayton

First, fuel pressure test.
Second, most likely replace lift pump.
Third, most likely take out personal loan at the bank in preperation to replace injector Pump.
Fourth, install permant fuel pressure gauge, so you can keep a constant eye on FP.
Fifth, replace IP with loan and possible additional monies saved up.
Then again, looking at your post, you only have 51k miles. It should be under warranty. If so, take it to dealer and let them foot the bill.

Sounds exactly like the lift pump. Happened to me earlier this year.
I installed the HPFP from FASS and will never look back.

I wasn't sure when the change took place. I remeber when I first heard one. I wasn't sure if it was a deisel or not. Has it been that long? Time sure flies.
No matter what system you have, a permanent FP gauge is a must have.
