Front End Rattle

I have a slight rattle I can't hear, but "feel" in the steering wheel. I just had the front end inspected and they found driver's side ball joints bad. So I had the ball joints & the large "tourque bar"? replaced so it should be tight. But when I am going about 30-60 MPH in a slow, right hand turn I can feel something loose in the steering wheel.

Any ideas on what to check next?

I'll take it back to the shop and see what they suggest. They are fairly good and reputable at front end work.

From: San Diego, California, yea, one of them!
Geico,

Mine does this too. On mine it is the shaft coming out of the steering box. They don't have the internal support they should have so the shaft shifts around.
You can visualize this if somebody rocks the steering wheel back and forth and you lay under the truck and look directly at the shaft coming out of the box.
If it is this, there is a support kit made that adds a support bracket and bearing setup where the bolt threads onto the steering arm. It looks like a pretty good design. Eventually the seals will fail from the movement of the shaft and you will get fluid leaks.

On my 95 the shock lower bolt keeps comming loose enough to allow the shock to bank around some. I can hear it some but I feel it as a hard metallic clunk

The steering brace works outstanding for this concern it mounts between the frame rails underneath the sway bar mounts, about a 15 min. install.
I purchased mine from Mr. Bobs Distributing (661)245-0319.

Well, my fix was even more simple than the bracket. I tighened the steering gear box about 90 degrees and it fixed the "rattle". My wife actually turned the steering wheel while I looked for something loose! AND she didn't even run over me!

It is amazing how these little things creep up on you and you don't even know the steering is loose. After I tighen it up it feels like a new truck again.

I spoke too soon. I need the bracket to support the shaft. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Final Answer? It was the intermediate steering shaft. It had play in it. I replaced it for $140 and solved the problem.
