Failing fuel pump

I think my fuel pump is going south. When I start the truck my fuel pressure climbs to 13.5 lbs then bounces from 10-14 then drops to 4-5psi. The pump changes pitch from its normal whine to a pitch as it falls from 14 to 5. Is it common for campaing pumps to fail with 10,000 miles. Any insight is greatly appreciated. I need this truck for a 400 mile trip this weekend.

I don't think I have an in tank pump. I have a vulcan pusher setup with the carter lift pump mounted on the frame.

Sounds like a good time to buy one of the Walbros from E-bay for $100 and put it on the frame rail. You already have most of e plumbing you need for that. But, sounds like its too late to get ready for the weekend... I would buy another Carter from Napa, take it and some tools with me, and if I didn't use it, return it next week and get a Walbro in place later.
