Unhappy Engine cough?

Lately my truck has been bucking and coughing if I accelerate quickly. I have a fuel pressure gauge and it shows that at full throttle the press. drops to about 5psi and the needle does not bounce. I have also noticed an occational rough idle. What are some possible causes and how do I check. My fear is a bad VP44, does this sound right?

A drop to 5 psi would indicate to me that your lift pump is startin to go. I hope its not the VP, that is one expensive pump.

From what I have been reading, I hope it is the lift pump. Kinda sounds like it might be your VP though. If it is not under warranty, contact Piers and see what their newest upgraded pump will cost.
