Dtc P1693,

Dodge 2000 Dully, 24v turbo Diesel. I have a check engine code P1693. My Tac needle goes to 0 and I loose power. After awhile the Tac starts working again and power returns to normal. I am reading two different causes out of a book and on the internet. One is P1693, DTC Detected in companion JTEC Module, the other is P1693, DTC detected in EMC or PCM. Niether one sounds good, what do I need to do in order to fix this thing and can I drive it with this code or will it hurt the engine.

P1693 is a code that tells you there is a malfunction code stored in the ECM.
You need to pull THAT code to see what component is malfunctioning.

It sounds like a possible crank position sensor, but you need to pull that code before you start spending $$$.

Scan that code, P01693 is what they call a companion code, a code stored in another computer, in this case the ECM on the side of the block. Po1693 is simply telling you that computer is reporting a code.

Dunno why, to me it would have been just as easy to send the codes as it would have been to send a code reporting a code, but then that's why I don't make the big bucks.

Thanks for all the help. I'm checking to see if I can pull the code with a friends help from Advanced auto.

I think Shovelhead is right on the money with the problem and the sensor isn't a million dollars like a new APS from the Dodge or Cummins dealer or a VP44.
