Angry dodge newbie- dead lift pump

I was just leaving town for a nine day trip towing my Weekend Warrior when I shifted into fourth gear and reached about 2,000rpm the engine hesitates like it is running out of fuel. Immediately I turned around and went home. I would like to know if this is what happens if a lift pump dies and if it is covered under warranty from Dodge 5/100K. My truck is an 01 2500 QC 4x4 HO 6spd. If it isn't under warranty where is the best place to buy the pump to install myself (located in Southern Cal). Thanks, Eric

Hello and welcome to the forums. Sorry to hear you are having problems. It does sound like a lift pump to me and it should be covered by your warranty provided the truck is still stock (ie no edge box and what not). If for some reason not covered by warranty, get the pump from your local cummins parts dealer (do a search and you can probably get the part # online here). I believe the price is around $100.
Good luck

Thanks for the info. The truck is bone stock as far as the engine with only 45,000 miles. I've got an appointment at the dealer for 7:30 monday morning.

I would suggest installing a fuel pressure gauge in the future as these things aren't the best. Furthermore be aware that frequently when the lift pump goes, the VP44 usually follows shortly thereafter, and that is the very expensive part to repair. Hope your visit to the dealer goes well.

Did you check your fuel filter? If it has been on for a while, you might want to change it.
