Re:Diesel Fuel Help

You can add suplements,ie: power service etc.,best advice I can think of is fill up at places that have a fast turn over of fuel, like truck stops and places that sell a lot to local dump trucks and the like,Have fun on the trip, goodluck Rick

I think what you are getting at is "Do I need an anti-gel product" since you are going to a much colder climate. You certainly could pour in an additive if you get to your destination with a tank full of "California" fuel just to be safe. Otherwise just let it run down a bit and fill up at a good, busy filling station when you get there, or when you get close.

An ounce of prevention....

Well in this case about 4 oz should do the trick.. Add the antigel additive and then you don't have to worry. Most of the good additives have a water dispersant and would take care of any small amounts in the tank already before they become a problem. It won't hurt the engine at all.

Re:Diesel Fuel Help

Truck stops should already be pumping winter fuel, even in So Cal, as the big rigs are sure to encounter below freezing temps on their runs.

Mom and Pop stations, or even big name's might not be switched over yet, as most of their customers most likely stay in that area.

Best bet is fill up at a truck stop before heading out.
You shouldn't have any problems.

Once you hit Idaho, all those stations will be pumping the winter blend.
Utah has switched over, and the massive price jump a couple of weekends ago confirms this.
(asking the counter jockey is sure to get a reaction)

Was 1.53 right before Halloween.
Now is 1.65 at the Chevrons and Phillips I frequent.
1.55 at the Flying J.
I think the local Hollidays (sinclair) is 1.59 or so, but my truck didn't like it the 1 time I tried them.
