delete/bypass the DEF system
delete/bypass the DEF system
I posted this in the 4th gen thread but figured it might get more views here.
Is it possible to delete/bypass the DEF system on a 2016 Ram?
I am currently stuck in Odessa TX on my way to Raleigh NC because my truck though a code P203F (Reductant Level too low) with secondary codes P218f & P20E8 and a message that states (DEF system ?? take it in for service) I took it to a shop and they checked to system out and said the the nozzle is delivering fluid with in spec. They said everything is pointing to a bad PCM. The problem is I took it into the shop Wednesday morning and they ordered the PCM and I asked to ship the PCM overnight but it has not left the Dodge warehouse yet and they said it ship Monday. So now I am looking for a work around.
The DEF fluid is Mopar brand.
Any help will be welcomed.

I am finding that out to. I use to get fairly quick responses?? I wish i didn't have DEF
but its hard to get around on the newer truck. It just sucks that my truck runs perfectly fine but because of the emission control system I could be left limping down the road at 5mph because of the code

Understood...My latest request for comments on mirrors fell on deaf ears...I kept researching, and found what I think is the answer to my quandary; I'll know when my parts get here and I find time to engineer the result...I hope you find the answer yourself...Good luck...

A lot of forums have moved away from discussing anything related to deletes. There are plenty of threads on many forums that already have discussed and given options for what you are looking for. Because of fines that many of the great folks that have provided the means to do what you ask, it's essentially gone underground to non-existent. Some say the compliant tunes have resolved the need to do deletes, but that doesn't fix the crappy DEF system.
As for your current problems - I just looked up the diagnostics info for all 3 of them and none of them lead to replacing the ECM. Other than the P203F (add DEF fluid), the others have the technician test the DEF fluid for contamination using various test strips and instruments before looking into other parts of the DEF system. I hope the ECM fixes your issue and it wasn't a waste of time.

Thanks for your comments. The shop check for flow at the injector and it was with in spec. with the amount of fluid that it was delivering. That when they said it"s pointing to the PCM. fortunately its still under warranty so it will be limited coast to me. I was just looking for a work around to get my truck back up and running to make it North Carolina and back to Calif since it was an emission thing and does hurt my truck if the def isn't working.

There is more to just checking the flow. I sure hope they are right, for your sake to get you back on the road. Since it's still under warranty, I'd just let them throw parts at it as long as there isn't a deductible or a low deductible. There are dealers that do not have certified diesel mechanics, let alone a Cummins mechanic, so the techs will do what they can without truly diagnosing the problem.
Unfortunately, there really isn't a simple workaround.
Good luck! Keep us posted. I know things have been quiet on the forums and I haven't been active myself over the last couple of years...just been busy. But I try to check when I see something come through the email list on this forum that interests me.

All the DEF and heavy-handed EPA drama makes me glad I've still got my '95. 471,xxx miles on the old gal, and she'll still push me back in the seat if need be.
Good luck, WInkle and let us know how it goes.

Unfortunately without programming you won't be able to bypass the components causing you issue anyhow. Even if you were to find the parts/programming it would defeat your warranty. There aren't many shops that will participate in bypassing government enforced hard parts. Best to just wait it out with the dealer to get it back right. Hopefully they're putting you up in a nice hotel.
