Tough to guess without a little more information. Best bet would be to get the codes read.

what 98 do you have? a 12v or 24V does yours have an egr? ( thats the pipe that goes over your motor if it is a cal. truck) you might want to fill out your sig. we need to know what you have before we can help you. chris

Most auto parts stores will read the codes for free (so they can sell more parts.)

I'm not sure if a 98 will work with this "trick" but try turning your ingition ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON and then leave it on and read the codes. They will either be displayed on your odometer or with flashes from the check engine light.

Once you get the codes post them here and someone will surely know what to do.

I recently had a check engine light problem with my 99 24-valve. I went to an Autozone and they downloaded the code and printed off the description of me. My map sensor (aka turbo boost pressure) was bad. Autozone didn't have the part so I went to the local Cummins distributor and purchased the part. It took the Autozone employee about 5 minutes to download code and pull up the description. Remember, Dodge dealers get 2-3 times what Cummins does for the same part. If you can get it from Cummins do so. My MAP sensor at Dodge was 99.98, at Cummins South it was 46.98.
