Check engine light on
I'm running a 98.5 2500 quad cab. 250 miles ago installed a Edge EZ. Worked great until tonight. She started surging and the auto tranny was shifting in and out of O/D, the the check engine light came on. I pulled over and shut it down, then restarted. Same thing again. Only 75k miles, never a problem before. Everything else is stock on the Cummins. Any ideas and how do I get that ugly light to turn off? This just happened and I have not yet disconnected the EdgeEZ and tried it. I suspect the Edge went over the edge, but that's only a guess right now.
Disconnect the Edge. With three starts and no problem, the light should go out. You can also disconnect the batteries for about 20 minutes and if it's a non recurring fault, the light should extinguish.
Sounds like you have a fault. Can you retrieve the code(s) that caused the check engine light to illuminate in the first place? I think I read on here that turning the ignition on, off, on, off, on (without starting) will NOT retrieve the codes on your model year but it's worth a try. If the check engine light doesn't start flashing after flipping the ignition on/off/on 3 times then, it's confirmed that trick won't work. If the check engine light starts flashing, count the flashes and write down the number of times it flashes between pauses. If it doesn't flash then you're either going to have to buy a code scanner or take it to a place like Autozone where they'll the pull the codes out for free or you could pay a repair shop.
Once you get the codes post them and we'll see what we can do.
