CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
The check engine light goes through spells of coming on, so this time I hit the Auto Zone code reader. It shows 2 codes, the 1st being P0216 injection timing control circuit malfunction. The 2nd code was P0237 Turbo or superboost sensor "A" low input. Any ideas out there. This is on a 99 3/4T with a Comp Box, High Pressure Fuel Pump and K&N Air Canon filter system.
Re:CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
The 0216 is scarey. Better check your fuel system real good, the book relates to fuel pressure low or a restriction causing a timing malfunction or the injection pump is screwing up. "Fuel Pump Timing Failure" is the code.
The 0237 is your map sensor reading too low. A bad MAP sensor or possibly a leak at a boot. Low boost pressure is showing.

HEY HAULER
THANKS FOR THE INPUT, BUT NOW LETS PRETEND YOUR TALKING TO A COMPLETE NON. IF THAT WERE IN FACT WHAT I WAS, WHERE WOULD I FIND THE MAP SENSOR AND THE BOOT YOU ARE REFERING TO.

Re:CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
SOMETHING MORE TO ADD HERE. THIS IS A MANUAL TRANNY AND IT RUNS 20 POUNDS OF FUEL PRESSURE NO MATTER HOW HARD I ROMP IT. SEEMS A LITTLE HIGH TO ME, BUT AS I SAID WERE PRETENDING I'M A NON HERE
Re:CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
99cummins: I'd suggest that you go over all of the connectors coming from your comp box. There is one of them going to the air intake on the left side of the engine. Voila, MAP sensor.
Sometimes bad things happen in the connectors-clean and add a bit of dielectric grease.
The timing code doesn't look too good. Did the light come on while cranking or down the road? The Bosch specs for the VP44 call for lower pressure during cranking to avoid a hard start condition-AFAIK this has something to do with the inability to bleed high fuel pressure out of the timing module while cranking, resulting in a timing that won't allow you to start.
Just my 2c

Re:CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
Alpine thats a great post, I never thought of the high fuel pressure throwing a code for pump timing. Your map sensor will be down on the side of the block behind the fuel filter. There are two of them about four inches apart, the one closest to the flywheel is the IAT and the front one is the MAP sensor. You should know where the IAT sensor is also, need to clean it now and then. Brake cleaner works well as has been is several threads here. The map sensor is about $50 mail order or higher from the dealer. Cummins price is not too bad.
The boots are the rubber connectors connecting the intercooler, two from the turbo and two connecting the intake side. Look for cracks, leaks and the clamps tight.
If you follow the threads on this board and have some mechanical ability, you will learn just about what you need to know from Alpine and others that know these trucks.
Bill (with the CTD with no injection pump on it now :'( )
