cel but no active codes
cel but no active codes
Cel came on again. cycled through for codes came up with just blank lines through and done at end of cycle. cel is still on and have been running it for a couple of day's still have no codes present and cel hasn't reset. does this mean another trip to the dealer for a reset. Really hope this doesn't continue.
Truck is running fine and fuel milage is getting better. had a flash done on Dec 3 2007 for cel. Had lube oil filter change dec 14th. said no new flashes then. any new ones out since. Would appreciate any help I can get on this.

took it to the dealer
dealer said they are updating weekly, last week there was an update for thermostat irrationality. Not there this week hoping it was included in the new flash. Love the truck but hope they get this straightened out. Did get better mpg's on the way home though. Came up about 1.5 mpg's hand figured 18.6. Guess I will need it updated everytime I go in for service. Codes came up as previous p1451 p0128, same codes it went in for on Dec 3rd. Anyone have any idea's on this it's a long trip to my dealer.

Cummins may have screwed up on emission package. They may have calculated a heavy duty cycle. If that doesn't happen all kinds of lights go on as many know. Pulling hard up a long grade may have some benefit.
Understand Cummins/Dodge are working tails off to resolve. Due to emission regulations it is difficult to fix. Long test and recertification times.

Hi,
I posted on this a few weeks ago and got a couple of responses. What seems to happen is that if codes are "actively" set, then you can see them with the 3x key cycle method. However, some codes unset if they are not detected at the expected time (like 0514 at startup, for example). However, they are still stored in the ECM for retrieval via OBD for some number of start/run cycles. This is presumably to allow a dealer to see intermittent problems easier.
In my case the 0514 code could be seen only if I immediately shutdown and did the key cycle method. If I waited until the engine warmed up, the code would be unset and yet the CEL would still be on.
I welcome any corrections to my theories.
