Can Anyone Shed Some Light On this?

Hey,kinda new to posting...so bear with me please, Yesterday morning I started up cold about 25 degrees outside no block heater I don't use it till it is below 20 usually. No programmer or pressure box hooked up. it started up fine after pre-heat cycle but I noticed the pyrometer was up at 600 just idleing and light revs in neutral are building 10 lbs of boost! I drove it a short trip and it is down on power. The egts are very high for an unloaded truck floored on a mild grade the boost will go to 40 lbs and the egts are hitting 1200 + not alot of power no smoke white or black. when I got home I checked the exhaust manifold temps at each cylinder at idle #1 cyl was 100 degrees and the other were all around 200 degreees.I know the one cylinder is not firing cause of the temps but why? and why are the egts so high? Bad injectors? No outrageous noises or even rough idle. any ideas?

Perhaps the cold is effecting your gauge electronics. My bet is it will return to normal once the cab is good and heated up.
Not unusual for #1 and #6 to check out cooler with an infrared gun because the manifold has accumulated more exhaust gases as it goes toward the center. If you were able to measure the actual temps inside each cylinder they would probably be close to the same.

I drove it around till the water temp was up to 200, normal run temp, and it is still down on power an just doesnt sound right the egts are still way too high for an unloaded truck-900-1000 at light cruise no load. #6 cylinder is 203 when #1 is 100 at idle.
I have an appointment at B&B Dodge tomorrow. 72000 miles,I should be covered under the Cummins warranty, I hope...

Check your oil level. You may be gaining due to a cracked injector. If your oil level is indeed rising, do not drive the truck any further and get it towed to the dealer.

Checked the oil, almost a quart low, which is about right- I changed it about 3000 miles ago. Its about 20 miles to the dealer i'll just take back roads and slow. A couple of days ago I remember I heard a kind of POP --NOT the exhaust, but I did not notice a problem then. Anyway its snowing big time so I will let the dealer play with it.I have no place to get it indoors. Injectors are covered on the 100000 warranty, right? When I spoke to the dealer he said "some things are not covered"

O.K. I just got a call from the dealer, seems that they hooked a trailer up to my truck and the mechanic agrees with my complaints, also says I have a 1-2-1-2 shift shuttle problem.
He says the injectors may be bad and there may be other problems but he wants to pressure test my intercooler for "pinhole leaks" says it could cause the computer to not control the wastegate properly and build too much boost. I would think a hole in the intercooler would cause low boost. Anybody ever hear of this ?

injectors are part of the motor under the 100k, but they will try any trick they can to get out of it. the last 2 motor problems i have had have involved the #6 cylinder why i dont know but i have an 07 tore down and the 6 has the most damage. i agree with what your thinking about the pin holes letting it out but i learn something new every day

I do not have an exhaust brake but I still have the cat I just have a cat back MBRP exhaust. I originally thought some critter crawled up the tailpipe but it is clear.. I have to go to the dealer today to find out if they are going to help me or not.I got a problem with people I don't know working on my equipment,I hate to bring it in for warranty work but the cost of the parts would be ridiculous for me to do it myself.

Have you looked at your air filter? Checked the turbo boots? Checked for codes?

Air filter is new, there were no codes when I checked with an Innova 3110 scanner and the boots did not appear torn or perforated. What bothers me is the difference in temps between the cylinders,I know on a good running class 8 truck engine the exhaust temps are very close between cylinders, not off by 100 degrees.

Well, the things that cause different cylinder temps are fuel, the lack thereof, or no compression...

Start with a compression test (can we do this on these trucks?) and then the injectors...

you have, and never will have used a wix fuel filter? waaaay out on a limb, but they have been known to fail and send bits downstream to the injectors.

All filters can cause problems,But I would never use anything but Fleetguard 7 micron fuel filters, and stratapore oil filters.
The mechanic is deer hunting,I still have no word on my truck
