Unhappy brether tube

have a 98 24 valve cunnins and i've lost 8 quarts oil thru the breather tube. had it checked and the mechanic says he thinks the rings are bad but no smoke blowing out. if ya stay below 55 no oil comes out, if the rpms get high enough oil comes pouring out of the tube! what could be the problem?

There is definitley something pushing it out. What does the oil dipstick look like? Any water on it? Fuel on it? Most likely it's combustion gasses. Are there any other crankcase vents on that motor?

dipstick looks good no water, no fuel on it. as for as the crankcase vents i have no idea... it runs great as long as ya keep it below 55.

changed the oil ourselves and started having problems after that. used a kp filter cause thats all they had. after the first time changed the oil used another filter but did it again pullin a camper on interstate. do i need to pull the motor apart to see what the problem is? really don't understand this. i'm used to gas engines!

Wonder if the KDP did a one-of-a-kind damage to the engine somehow?

Any oil leaking from the timing case/cover?

Are your vents/climate/cruise/4x4 working correctly?

Are you sure it's not coming out of the oil pan gasket, or the side cover gasket, blowing on to the breather hose and running down? It would be difficult to blow that much oil out the breather, because it's very high on the motor.
How do you know it starts blowing out over 55?

no 4x4, ac does not work...condinser bad cruise works fine... no oil leaks anywhere on the motor. cleaned the engine and not a drop from the top or side of motor... can watch the oil gauge and see the pressure dropping down to 0. stopped and can see the oil coming out of the tube. not a drop any where else. brought it to my regular mechanic and he can't see anything else other than wantin to pull the motor apart and see if somethin in there is clogged!!!

What is a KP filter? Did this just start happening? How many oil changes have you done...What kind of oil did you use? Did you just buy the truck?

This only happens above 55? What about in 4th with the same rpm's?

A 24 valve should not have a KDP so that is not the problem.

How many times has your oil pressure dropped to near zero?

Is there any chance that someone replaced the dipstick and the oil level is off? Should be 11 quarts (including the 1 in the filter). If you blow 8 out...I don't think the remaining 2 in the pan will register on the dipstick...so there may be another issue here.

Does your oil smell like diesel? You may have a stuck injector which is flooding your crankcase with diesel, and then you will have oil blowing out the breather tube

I am thinking of stuff here...

Oh,
I forgot...could it be the seals on the vacuum pump which operates the power brakes? It is located close to the end of a stock breather tube and could be the culprit

pressure has dropped twice...lost oil both times...sorry kn filter had the truck for 2 years. changed oil every 5k miles...can be in neutral just bring the rpms up and oil starts pouring.. mechanic said he stopped up the hose and it blew the dipstick up. says its blowby and either the piston or ring is bad but truck does not smoke!!!! when we got the truck the breather tube was plugged up...go figure!!! dipstick is right just know that we have to add 8 quarts of rotella t so we figure its losing 8...oil does not smell the fuel had the injectors checked and that is fine.. love the truck but just don't know what to do

breather tube is pulled down so we can see it we know the oil comes from there. why would the hose be plugged up and what kind of damage can that do? maybe it did it before so the owner tried to stop it.. is that possible that it could have ran great for 2 years then just start losing oil all of a sudden?

"when we got the truck the breather tube was plugged up...go figure!!! "

How long have you had the truck? How much did it cost?
