Check your power steering pump, it powers both the steering and brakes....

Any leaks? Start it up and have someone else crank on the wheel. Crack open the line coming from the pump. No fluid=no power steering pump.

don't replace your pump yet. this problem is notorious in cold weather. flush or bleed all the fluid from the system and replace with synthetic.

the reason for this is that the conventional fluid becomes VERY viscous when cold and creates too much pressure - and gushes out of the weak spot in the system - usually the cap.

i was advised at one time to replace the pump, tried the sythetic swap and haven't had a problem ever again.

There is a filter screen in the pump that can plug up also, easy to clean.
