Any electrical system guru's? Need help

I "believe" I know where my fault light is coming from but I do not know how to properly diagnose it. With the (+) pos terminal disconnected from the battery and all the aux/acc wires disconnected from the (+)pos bat cable lug I am getting current from the large black wire that I'm pretty sure goes to the alternator. I disconnected what I think is the same wire at the alternator. See pics below

If I hook a teast lead to the wire to the alternator bypassing the long wire that goes back to the battery I get no current. This leads me to believe there is a short or?? in the wire or some part connected to that wire the goes between the battery and the alternator. What do I check next?

Your "what's this" in the picture are the grid heater connections if I'm not mistaken here. I still don't understand what the problem is. Is there a post somewhere else describing your problem. I'll look and see.

Jbolt:
I am not sure what the problem is either. However, from what I understand from your posting, when you jumper the wire from battery to alternator, there should be no current. if there were a voltage reading, you would have an open circuit.(potential defference)

I may have misread your post.
george
