I got hit with the 5th gear trouble tonight while grossing 16,000 kgs.
Does anybody in Alberta have a 5 spd. they want to sell right away?
Give me a call please at 780 - 915- -7794 ( before 8 am Monday) if you do, I'll come and get it if the price is reasonable.
Thankx fellas

It would be easier to fix the trans in the truck than pull the trans out. You need to remove the rear tail of the trans to do the job. Just a thought.

Thankx Apache, but the tranny is toast. I thought it was the 5th gear thing but something else let go and all I've got is 4th. Sounds like a rock crusher.

Dr. Evil, thankx, but no I don't lug at all. I put in a US Gear underdrive when the truck was new so I'd never pull below 1800 RPM. Don't really know what might have broken.I was on my way to the Edson area on a hot shot and it started making all the noise and was 'out of gear' so I thought it was 5th and dropped into 4th. When I went to make my corner I discovered no other gears would engage. Thankfully, I've got 4/wd and I went into 4/wd low to start off and made it back home that way.

Now the fun comes.

Check the truck wreckers. This might be a good time to swap to a 6 speed.

Good Luck.

PS stay away from Edson.....its trouble...lol.

I'm a little leary about the wreckers, you never know what you're getting. I guess if it's a 'low milage beauty' I'll be alright.

I was on my way to a pipeline just north or Peirs, I think I'll blame them for the troubles.

I'm going to look into a 6sp swap. If the price is close and I can use the 2sp tranny, with it's shorter tail shaft, I'm thinking of going that way. I guess I'll see tomorrow.

NADP in Edmonton usually has 5 and 6 speeds available.

Man, I was just out that way last week. I was in Jasper from Thurs to Sunday on a startup.

Talisman owns Edson...LOL...

I hope you find a good tranny. You might try The Gear Center, they seemed to know about my Getrag back when I had one. They might be able to resurect the old one.

Just a thought..

Thankx fellas.
It's in at that place north off 137 ave. by the furnature store (you know). Should be done tonight.

They are the only place that actually fixes the 5th gear trouble with the new shaft etc. when they rebuild the tranny. Their price is close to everybody else too. I'd forgotten all about them actually and I feel like a poo. I used to pit for a sprint car that raced against Rodger and I've known Gene, the shop forman, since he was 5 years old.

Looks like a shaft broke and destroyed everything inside. Luckily 4th still engaged and I made my delivery and made it home.
