Air Bag Light!!!! Dang!!!!!!!

My light came on tonight and my Superchips 3705 does not show a code???? What's up with that? When it came on I only drove it about 6 miles and then shut it down and read the codes (0), restarted it and the air bag light was still on.

I did a search and saw some posts about the clockspring breaking. I also saw that there was a recall, which I will call on Monday and see if it has already been done. Does it normally show a code? Last week I put in a new steering column bushing and the instructions warned about turning the wheel too much cause you might break the clockspring. Well, while in the process of doing the bushing the steering wheel got turned a few times so I decided to center it back up. I turned it all the way to the right until I could feel it tighten slightly and then all the way left and counting the number of turns (18). I then turned it back 9 more to center it. Do you think I over did it? I have put on about 100 miles since then with no air bag light on. Do you think I weakened it and it just now broke? What are some of the other symptoms of a broken clockspring?

When the clockspring breaks you can usually hear it rubbing when you turn the wheel.
Also they usually break all the way across, all the electrical functions on your steering wheel will quit- horn, cruise. etc.

I think I will answer my own question. I went back out and could definately hear a noise in the column and my cruise does not work. So it must be the clockspring. Any ideas if this is a dealer only item and if not where can I get one cheap if it has already had the recall done? Also, do ya'll think the dealership would refuse to do the recall since I replaced the bushing with an aftermarket one?

Sorry Infidel, you must have posted the same time I was posting mine. I feel better now that I know what it is.

I love this site.
