ABS light and Brake Light 97 2500 4X4 Auto
I just tried to follow some of the ideas on this subjuct. I cleaned and re-greased all connections refered to and then traced my vacuum line from the brake mastercylinder. I found the formed vacuum line going under the valve cover to have a hole worn in it. The line runs through the fire wall with the a/c lines. It won't hold a vacuum. Where does it go and what is it for, please. Thanx for your help in advance.

There isn't much to it. It goes through the firewall and up to the back of the heater control on the dash. The heater control could be bad, or one of the vacuum actuators that control the doors in the HVAC system could be bad. I had one go my on my 96.
Haynes manuals talk about it a bit.

There is one on the axle and one on the tranny. On my 99, supposedly, the PCM uses the tranny sensor to determine if it should pay attention to the signal from the axle sensor, and actually obtains the speed from the axle sensor.
I do not know enough about the programing of the PCM for 96 to say if it is the same way on that year.

did that - no help
My wifes '02 had the ABS light come on a few months back. I told her it was ok to drive until I figure it out.
That turned out to be a bad idea.
The ABS sensor on the front wheel was damaged by the wheel bearings when they started going bad. The next day the wheel almost came off.
Don't wait too long to find out the hard way.
I'm not saying that's your problem, just that when the ABS light comes on, it is not always safe to keep driving.
