47re trans vs chev turbo 400

Back to the motorhome question, of which trans is going to hold up the best pullin this 35 foot motorhome. It had the turbo 400 in it with a 6 bolt torque converter, and I've heard you can buy an adapter plate to mate up with that trans, but it's only a 3 speed. I've also heard they have a shift kit that will work with a diesel motor. The emerency brake comes right off the back of the trans in the form of a drum brake. Is there any thing like that out there that fit the 47re trans? Or would you try to find an allision or some thing out of a moving van?<br>Any Ideas?

I take it the donor had a handshaker in it?

What about a Torqueflight 727? Didn't they come with the orig CTD's? That way you could keep it all MOPAR. Its also a 3 speed but they used to have a good rep.

Whichever way you go, you could always add an external overdrive gear box to get the revs lower on the superslab.

You may want to post these questions on the 1st gen or 12V page for some on-going dialogue.

BTW, welcome aboard!

The GM 4L80E basically has the internals of a turbo 400 with a 0.75:1 OD to boot. The bad news is that you need an electronic controller.
