4000 lb pull?

Guys,
I need to make a 70 mile trip tomorrow (Saturday Oct 19th) with a car carrier loaded with 4000lb.
Im not so worried about being able to pull it, but I am more concerned that I will be making this trip with no trailer brakes.
The trip is flat land on 4 lane high-ways and I do plan to go about it slow.

What do you guys have for thoughts on this?

Rich

Of course I wouldn't want to do it with out trailer brakes. But I live where we have lots of mountains. Just make sure you go slow, no faster than 55, and try and keep lots of distance between you and anyone in front of you. Don't get distracted! Is the total weight 4000 lbs? If so you should be fine. I tow almost that much in my small cargo trailer all the time and it has no brakes. Just use common sense.

so long as you have good brakes i wouldn't worry about it, but around here its illegal to tow anymore than 3000lbs without brakes. Actually it might be like that everywhere, or just here in pa?

Total weight may be closer to 4500 lb including the trailer itself. The load will be closer to 3600 lb. I dont know the weight of the trailer so I guessed at a total weight of 4000 lb.
Yes, no trailer brakes doesnt settle well with me either.

Thanks for the input everyone.

With the '98, towing that AND stopping quickly would be "Pucker Factor 6" (say that 3 times fast! )... with the '05's 15" rotors - I wouldn't think twice about it.

Made the trip without an issue.
Truck pulled great. Im very impressed with its ability to pull that load.
The trip had rolling hills, some fairly long, others shorter and steeper. Regardless, the truck was able to hold 65 all the way.
The stopping was as expected... not too good.
But as stated before, I gave plenty of distance and approached stops, signals and traffic with the greatest of caution.

Rich.
