2001 HO shutters
2001 HO shutters
I hope someone can help me. I have a 2001 HO 6 speed with an edge ez, edm 100hp injectors, big exhaust, guages and a k&n filter. About a month ago the truck started shuttering, missing or jerking while accellerating in 5th or 6th between 1500 and 1900 rpm. I unhooked the box and it still does it just not as bad. when I pour the power to it it never misses a beat, it probably goes by the rpm range that it misses so fast that I cant notice it. Its on the second lift pump and the pressure never drops below 5psi at wot normally its at 14psi. the truck starts and runs great except for this little miss and i dont know what to do. I had autozone check for codes along with the ign key method and nothing came up.

forgot to mention that this all started (i think) when i changed light bulbs and left the lights on, the engins started but barely rolled over. probably just a coincidence?

At first thought I was thniking VP44 was going out...
But you happen to meantion that the batteries went close to dead... I do know the if the batteries are weak it will cause misfire. I would have you charging system checked and the batteries too...
Just two cents of ideas...

the volt meter reads around 14 while its running and the temp in ohio has been in the teens here in oh and it rolls over and starts fine . thanks for the reply im new to this but have been reading the forums for at least a year but never posted thanks again
yes the pedal is in approx the same place each time it stumbles but if i dont move the pedal and the prm goes past 2000 it becomes smooth again i have heard of a way to recalibrate it maybe that would help

The day the DD2 injectors went in with my EZ and other mild bombs (see signature), the stock clutch slipped for the first time when my wife nailed the truck at 1800 RPM in 5th gear - unloaded. The fix was a South Bend Con OFE.

sorry i should have mentioned that the day after i installed the edm injectors i ordered a con ofe from south bend that definatly took care of the slipping the clutch has been in for about a year only 15000 miles on it should be ok thanks for the reply

ok guys here is what i have done reset the apps sensor x2 no change unplugged the edge data connector still jerked but very slightly if i didnt know of the problem i probably wouldnt have noticed it next i unplugged the edge map sensor harness seemed better yet very smooth still has no codes only 25 lbs boost and runs like its got 12000 lbs on the trailer
the three things i think it could be
1 edge ez going bad
2 map sensor
3 injection pump
please help

Yeah, my shudder (clutch slip with stock clutch) went away when I unplugged the EZ's CANbus connector, too. That kills the low-and-midrange torque "kick" produced by the EZ, so the clutch slips less or not at all.
I'm really not on a crusade here, but don't ignore clutch slip (Con OFE or not - it could be contaminated with oil, etc.). Everything you describe sounds like a textbook case. It really doesn't sound like the typical injection pump failure or APPS failure, or even an EZ failure.
OK, I'll go off in the corner and be quiet now.

thanks rusty what is a 6x4 slt
when my original clutch slipped (when mach 2s were installed) it never shuddered or jerked at all the rpms just kept climbing and the truck stayed at the same speed it started i 6th then 5th and so on i took it easy untill new clutch came odly enough the old clutch showed no real signs of wear i guess it just couldnt hold the new power also there doesnt appear to be any trace of oil coming out the bottom slot in the bell

A 6x4 is a 2WD dually. 6 tires with 4 of them driven. (OK, it's a gig at the 4x4 crowd!
)
A SLT+ is an option group that includes leather, premium Infinity sound system, etc. In the 2nd generation trucks, one could order an SLT+ in combination with the Sport appearance package - that's how I ordered my truck.
As I said, my stock clutch shuddered when it slipped. Maybe yours didn't, but maybe the OFE is. If this is the first time you've felt it, you may not recognize it as clutch slippage. It's a grab-slip-grab-slip phenomenon. It normally happens in the highest gears (i.e., 5th and 6th) at high "throttle" openings and sub-2000 RPM engine speeds. That sounds like what you're experiencing, at least as I read your description.
I'd just hate to see you throw $$$$ at the truck to replace the VP-44, APPS, etc. and not fix the root problem.

He said originally that when he got into the throttle the problem went away. This sort of screams that it's not the clutch.
Your theory has been useful to me though - now I think I know what the rumbling was when I was testing out the EZ after I installed it...

well i got my 1 1/4 deep socket from work today and removed the map sensor - it is not grounded and has a different amt of resistance on each pin - i assume its ok - cleaned the IAT sensor but it looked new - neither made a difference - also ran it from work to home with the map sensor not plugged in no codes and no difference - does the ez still being plugged in trick the computor into thinking there is a proper map sensor input therefore eliminating the need for the map sensor? - fuel pressure when it stumbles is 8 to 10 psi and now i am leaning tward the injection pump but still not a single code has been thrown

I am having the exact same thing so I am really watching this thread. Mine is an H.O. and the only thing I can say is mine seems to do it a little more when the outside air temp is cold(er).
I also have no codes and it does it without the Edge too.

Just my 2 cents, when my first IP went out, there was no codes or any sigh of trouble, just parked the truck and then a no start condition. Now my last one acted like a dead pedal in a certain range, nail the pedal and she would seem to run fine, but mine did throw the death code, put a new pump in from Superior Turbo/diesel in Detroit and ask for Bill,I thought I had the phone# handy but I dont, but if you call information they will have it for you.Price was $1050.00 plus a core deposit, one year unlimited miles, and Bill is a great guy to deal with.I hope its not your pump, but if it is all I can say is your not alone, but still enjoy my CTD and coming up on 300k miles.Good Luck
