1999 7.3 Stroker Fuel Leak

My father-in-law has an PS that is leaking fuel. He is old and can't get around real well, so bare with me on my lack of knowing exactly where it coming from (have not seen the trk, since the leak). He says that it only leaks when it is running and drips constant every 3-4 seconds. he says it is in the front, but can not pinpoint where it is coming from. he went up a steep grade twice with his slide in camper and noticed no lack of power or fuel starving. he is taking it to the dealer tomorrow, so any suggestions is appreciated to help arm him with the they are going to feed him.

I know this may be tuff to suggest anything due to the lack of info. TIA.

in the valley there is a fuel pump with banjo fittings, it's probably there.... at least mine was.but on the other hand, it could be the fuel filter, it's in the front

If it's leaking off the front of the engine, towards the passenger side, then most likely the fuel drain valve is bad, and leaking out the drain tube. Just need to look underneath and see if it's dripping out the tube at the r/f corner of the engine. If so, it's an easy fix. Should be about $85 for labor, and the part is not to bad.

Actually this can be fixed for $5. It most definetly sounds like the fuel bowl drain o-rings have gone bad. Now that the ULSD is out everybody is selling the viton o-rings for this. Check ebay, theres tons on there.

To fix:
Remove the plastic Powerstroke cover

Look at the back of the fuel bowl and you'll see a yellow lever. Rotate it towards the center of the engine. This will drain the fuel bowl (~20oz) out the metal drain line that he's seeing the fuel leak from.

There are 2 T10 torqs (I believe its T10) that holds the yellow drain valve on. It can be a pita to get in there if you've got big hands, but it can be done. I've done this along side the road in Mississippi 2 years ago with one of our service trucks.

Pull the valve out and change the orings. Then reassemble. Takes about 10min to do. I sure wouldn't pay a dealership $85 to do it. That is if you're able to get over there to change it for him.

edit: Here you go, just follow this link. They're selling 4 instead of 2

the dealer charge him $550 to change the o-rings. I nearly fainted when he told me that. i did a search on changing and found step by step with pics. they said it took 3.5 hours, i thought at the most 20 minutes.
