01 3500 Stumbling

Hi, our stock ton truck is stumbling and spitting the last couple of days, 4 or 5 times a day, shortly after start up, shut the truck off and it seems to restart and run ok. One of my guys was leaving the shop a little will ago and I saw a puff of blue smoke and then he had to pull over and re start. The only code is the 1693 and I understand that means a hidden code. The truck has about 65000 kms (35000mi). No dash warning lights, and I don't have a fuel pressure gauge. Any Ideas? Thanks in advance, this is a great site, Fred

I get to beat the rest of these guys to it!
Better Put a Fuel Pressure Guage on it,went with the Edge Instead..I ran my truck out of fuel one time and it did about what you described,so I'd guess that you got a plugged filter,or water in the fuel maybe.
I was looking at this one, someone will tell you that one sucks,or there is one better, but this gets 'em primed to help

change the filter then see how it runs.

hopefully it's not the VP

you should really have a fuel pressure gauge to check.

if the filter does not fix it my next vote would be for the lift pump and VP44

update

Update, replaced fuel filtre, looked nasty. Worked great all day, just started home from home, going about 40mph, truck stumbled and died. Started after a couple of trys and runs fine again. Showing codes, 1693, 0230, 0217, any ideas? Employee thinks its running low voltage when it quits, I didn't notice, thanks FMK

230 is lift pump voltage, and 217 is engine over heated
