another thing to consider is that the Cummins engine is not a DC product. must be kinda embarassing that the best engine avaiable in 2500 and 3500 Rams isnt even manufactured by DC.

just a thought for whats its worth

I think that I read that 3 out of every 4 2500 and 3500 Dodge trucks that are sold are Cummins-powered. I think that says a lot.

The last i checked none of the big 3 manufactured their own diesel engine. Dodge uses cummins, ford is an international( until they pick another) and chevys Dmax is an izuzu ( however you spell it)

Ford doesen't own International, Navistar does, they make good trucks, can't say much for their engines tho, even the 7.3's. It'd be interesting to see what they're gonna do if they don't have International, as I can't think of any other diesel companies...

take this as ya want. I think(THINK) i heard something about a JD, but i dont remember for sure. I remember seeing an atricle somewhere that they approced JD and Cummins, And it explained how their contract with dodge doesnt stop them from selling to ford, however they dont want to **** dodge off or something. SOOO im thinkin JD will be the choice. Doest CAT already have a smaller engine comparable to the 5.9?

Cat would be a good option, but I think the smallest they have is the 300hp 3126 says on their site it goes from 190hp versions to 300hp I think it's still a little too powerful unless they couple it to an Eaton Tanny or something haha other problem would be making it fit (I think).

It would be nice to see something from Cat though, JD I dunno, they're more for stationary engines like for equipment, they might have some trouble doing something for a road application. But then again who knows

Just the other day I saw a Dodge/Cummins commercial, the first I've seen in quite a while. At a construction site, a guy is making fun of the foreman while the foreman is "sneaking up" behind him in an 04.5. The tag line of the ad is about how quiet 600 FP can be.

I got a 69 chevy shortbed with a 454 in it. I have the 454 emblems on the front fenders. At a light, this guy pulls up to me with a Dodge Hemi and innocently asks " Does that really got a 454 in it?" I told him yes and asked if he really had the Hemi... We both chuckled and drove off. The moral of the story is: Average Joe is impressed with BIG and Dodge came up with a great ad campaign so they are runnin with it. Imagine not knowing the performance etc. of the CTD and someone on TV saying " Yup, it's got the big 6 cylinder turbo in it." It's a hard sell unless you know what you want or rode in your buddy's and split the cost of fuel with him on a trip. 235 horsepower doesn't even sound like enough, when you can get a HEMI. P.S. how much more is a CTD than a hemi--- just wondering

The 3126 is a 7.2L engine and costs like the devil to have work done on it.
