Where some stations make their killing is on the price of diesel. Anytime you see diesel priced very close to, at, or above the cost of regular unleaded, that station owner is usually making somewhere around 25 to 30 cents a gallon on it.
I work at a gas station on nights, and the owner marks gas up 26cents for EVERY gallon. Doesn't matter what the price is. Wonder what he's making on diesel

I don't know why its cheaper, but Im glad it is. The odd thing is, if you go to the major sations around here ( Union 76, chevron, shell) thier 87 octane is about 2.29/gallon, and diesel is about 2.19/gallon. Then, if you go to the cheaper stations, like Arco or Thrifty, 87 octane is still 2.29, but diesel jumps up to about 2.47/gallon.. explain that??

I think it comes down to how much stations want to gouge. The 76 station I use was 2.29 for reg. unleaded and 1.99 for diesel this morning but there are stations here in Burbank that are 2.45-2.75 for diesel still. Can you say greed, sure you can. It all comes from the same refinery.

When I was driving from Washington to Montana.....I noticed that the prices were so much higher in Idaho......and cheapest in Montana. What are you guys doing to the diesel in Idaho to make it so valuable?

here in washington we pay alot more because we have a 28 cent sales tax on fuels then ad that to the mix of greedy station owners. but the thing that really chaps my hind end is that i live not 20 minutes from refineries of the big three shell cheveron and 76. and pay about 2.18 per gallon but if i drive 40 minutes west i could pay 1.97. its all the station you go to

It is nothing more than price gouging. You would think it would be gold in color rather than green. It might be that the green stands for greed?

Also to be considered is the low sulfer requirements of todays on-road diesel. When the USG gets involved, things cost more and more.
