Tech Facts VP44 Tester Question

In the Tech Facts messages there is a VP44 Tester listed with instructions on how to use it, but it doesn't give much info on the tester. Where can you get one, how much and does it diagnose only certain problems or will it actually detect all significant problems.

The only VP tester I know of is the dealer item that sits on the shelf and never gets used (rarely I should say). It would come in handy if you had to determine if a no start prob was the VP or the ECM. The tester plugs into the VP and would allow the truck to start if the ecm were bad. It has a Low and High idle setting. I've only had it help me maybe once in the last eight years.

I wrote the article and, at the time had limited info on it. As J Body said, you are limited to what you can do with it. I made my own and use it at work but seldom. As he said, the only time it comes in handy is when you have a no start situation.

Not fair, you were supposed have one of these fancy high performance shops that I could pull into and 10 minutes later drive out with all my problems fixed up.
