Tax credit for Diesil engines

Anyone ever itemized on their taxes the fact that you use an alternative fuel and can claim your gas on taxes for a tax credit? Heard of a couple people doing it, however I'm not sure of how to go about it and what I need, etc. If you have done this....please fill me in.-J

I don't know if you can do that with plain diesel, but I'm sure biodiesel is eligible

Diesel itself isn't an alternative fuel. As stated, bio-diesel is, and is eligible for any government programs that may be out there.

I investigated getting a tank placed at my house a while back. In talking with the fuel supplier, we discussed the bio-diesel rebates. He told me they file for the rebates and reduce the cost on the consumer end. If that's the case, I don't think I would be eligible for a tax break, I'd have to ask my tax man.

Remember, just because someone says they do this or that on their taxes, doesn't mean it's legal. I know lot of people who would be screwed if the IRS ever audited them.

I know in WI. you could do that with diesel but that program has been eliminated in my state. Don't know about yours. But it did indeed exist here for awile. I however did not have a diesel at the time.

Don't know if it's different for other businesses but I write off 100% of fuel expenses on the farm. Also get a refund on all gasoline taxes paid when the gas is used on farm. I am required to keep track of non-business miles and have a log book up to date that legally can be inspected at any time.
