our newest ambulance (05 furd pos) had another issue this weekend
it is on turbo #4 and its 3rd set of injectors and had gone 2 hole months with out a problem untill it puked out 5 gal. of anti-freeze and an unknown amount of fuel. don't know where its from but what a mess.
this POS has been a nightmare for us. and ford does not want to stand behind it at all on the repairs anymore so we kindly let them know that missouri has a lemon law and they ARE responsible.
it will be intresting to see what they do now!!

we just checked the oil level- very much over full and the antifreeze is well over full and smells awfull and burns very easily so it has to be fuel.
ford is sending up a wrecker from K.C. to get it this afternoon

We run ford e-350's here in Arlington and have non-stop problems with them. Out of 16 ambulances we have at least 3 out of service at all times for some fairly major failure, usually turbo or injector related, although lately we've had a couple engine failures and head gasket issues. The only one that doesn't have constant problems is the one 7.3l powered one, and it's getting close to being over miles so it'll be headed to a transfer service soon. Those 6.0l's are extremely problematic. I hear rumor that once they start getting over miles they will be replaced with GMC chassis with duramax's. I sure hope so.
I think wheeled coach is making boxes on 3500 and 4500 chassis now

We had a call one night and the ambulance took a long time to come 3 miles. After they got there the driver said it kept cutting out on him. Looked on the door and sure enough it was an 03 6.0. They loaded the paitent in the older 7.3 and transported him to the hospitial. Thats alway good to know that the ambulance might and might not make it to the house.

we start and run all of ours every 12 hours and if we "think " something is not right we don't use it. needless to say ................ this one doesnt get used as often anymore. i think the new ones we are looking at are the gmc's 4500's
there are only a couple dodge guys that work here and only one on the board to make decisions so the likelyhood of getting a sprinter are not good

The box i normally drive is in the shop now with some bad injectors and maybe other problems, it's an '06 6.0, we were having to leave it running for our entire 24hr shift, if we shut if off and let it cool down it would take several try's to start the thing, then it would spit and sputter and only run like 25mph until it was warmed up, not exactly the kind of performance we require in this line of work. It'd be nice if they'd get us some of those wheeled coaches with the cummins, but the company i work for (a very large national company) is too cheap so they buy the cheapest ambulances they can, we run AEV trauma hawks (type III), at least we don't have to use type II like our sister transfer operations do, no room for pt. care in those. We are really hoping that the GMC thing will go through soon.
