Try this

If you have that square box as most of the 12V's do, remove the little sleeve that connects the box to the fender, and it will not only get more air, but you will hear the turbo a little bit more than with the box muffled, IMHO, i agree with many other ppl, that it is the stock box that muffles most of the sound, Also try straight pipe, turbo bark is sweet and also hearing it spool down as well is cool!

Hope this works, its what i did... Dunno why either, (no backpressure?) but my egts run cooler too... with straight pipe..

Tx

I agree with you Tx... I've done the same thing and you can really hear the turbo now. You need at least straight piped exhaust and take the air tube out...

Yes... Hearing the turbo unspool / bark is killer...

OOPS!
I guess if I had filled out my sig there wouldnt have been any confusion.
See new sig below.
I will be removing that intake peice today at lunch. Not really anybug deal though I have a AFE stage 1 on the way (bought a stage 2 and it wouldnt fit over the exhaust brake so I bought the drop in but now need the whole intake) as well as a stage 2 Dr. performance module.

so removing the silencer ring is just a mental aide and not a true performance aide??
doesn't matter I'm still interested. where's the link for removing it? .

I stumbled on one aid to performance...by accident. Was advised by the TAG people to run a ring on my B-1...just in case, to prevent ingestion...should the tag slip for any reason. I removed it, after 2 months to test for any difference in max boost - with and without the ring.

I saw no difference in boost...but a big difference in reduction of back pressure to the compressor blades. Removing the ring has eliminated the compressor stall "woof-woof".

It has always bothered me that Dodge...not Holsett, designed the silencer ring; to reduce in cab noise. No turbo I know of was ever designed with a ring...by the Mfg. Must be some design purpose for the by-pass holes on the sides of the compressor blades?

No link needed. Just remove your air intake hose on your turbo. Using a thin flat head screwdriver and some needle nose pliers...pick the snap ring out of the groove....and lift out the ring. Some come out harder than others, but it's no more than a 10 min. job from start to finish!

Just removed my two days ago...

It sounds great! I have the stock air box on mine, but I do have it straight piped.

I still dont get why mine seems so quite. Of course it doesnt when I am standing next to the pipe. Maybe I just cant here it because of the way the exhaust is pointed.
If you like the sound of the turbo winding down you would love the sound of the exhaust brake maintanance cycle in the morn. Sounds like a dang ol' jet engine.

Swiss cheesing the stock air box helps out with the turbo noise as well. I put two large holes and two smaller ones in the bottom of mine with a hole saw.
