red dye and O rings?
a mech friend of mine got into a discussion about using red diesel and he told me that the red dye itself eats the O rings and i was wondering if anyone here has had any problem with them.
That's a first for me, been using red fuel in all manner of engines ever since they decided to dye it without a problem.
Think about it, why would any fuel refiner add something to their fuel that would cause problems?
Not very good for repeat sales.

I believe it's the sulfer that causes o-rings to swell, then go back to normal size when fuel without sulfer is used, causing pumps to leak. It sounds like most places are getting away from sulfer in the off-road fuel anyway.
pretty much all red fuel is low sulfer now [as all newer engines don't like/need the sulfer].. now if you get some blue fuel, it's got loads of sulfer in it. we have about 1,000,000 imp. gallons of it at work [and have tanker trucks coming about every hour to keep it topped up] the sulfer in the fuel you can smell in the fuel, and in the exhaust... the dye does nothing to fuel system seals. and i haven't noticed any fuel seal contact failures with the high sulfer fuels..
i used to deliver fuel for irving oil and i can tell u first hand that dye is not dangerous if mied right the fuel that old guy is talking about is the old stove oil u can almost not get that anymore so dont worry about it the dye would be dangerous if it was pure but the recepie is if i remember correcly 1 gallon for 18000 liters so dont worry
