Got a friend that is selling his D-maxx back, Fuel problems over and over 18 times for the same problem. Last the dealer had the truck for 3 weeks NO INJECTORS available. He got stuck with a MINIVAN! Claims he is gonna buy a V.W. diesel. Cant wait to see him pull this big boat with a V.W.

Well I have had both, and the Duramax has been the most reliable bombed truck and the most power thus far. Not to mention a muc better set of features. I wish I had left my Dodge stock, it was a way better truck that way. It only lasted 86,000miles. Not enough for me. I have 56,000 on my Duramax double stacked on an Allison Tranny. Limped it once, but that was pulling my trailer, and moving edge levels on the go too fast.

The thing to do is not ask someone what you should buy. But buy what you liked the best. If I had listened to others opinions, I would have had a Dodge again, but I drove all three trucks, and brought the one home that I liked the best. It listed for 50,000 and If I am gonna pay for a truck I better like it for a long time.

Heck some of mu buddies in the Dodge clan even quit talking to me for about a month. Then they drove it, and saw why I went the way I did.

I also have a baby girl, and needed a true crew cab for a car seat, stroller, which I had no idea how big they are until I went to Babies R Us and purchased one.

Plus diaper bags, and other fun things. WOW! HEHEHEHE Thank goodness it has a DVD player as well. Taylor love cartoons.

Well I have raced a few, but they are much lower in horsepower than myself. So its not a good comparison. Thanks for the compliments. As far as pulling it is the best I have had. I loved my dodge, and it had power, but this truck seems to hold its power better. I love the Allison transmission. Just put it in drive and tow. Now problems, and I give it grief all the time.

I love all diesel trucks. I am not brand loyal. I just drive them and when I get tired of them, I trade them and begin all over again.

i find it very rare that you have only hit limp mode once. i have been in 3 different duramaxs that hit limp in 5th gear. 2 of them had 215 quads and the other was a bully dog pup with a edge juice with attiude stack. i know of another that is still on the stock allison with a quad 215 and a juice stacked but he stays out of the power in 5th[has limped it a few times]. i have another buddie with a 215 quad and we are fixing to put on a edge hot juce with attitude. but he dropped 6k at ats in december. duramaxs are pretty tough but all the brands are weak when it come to a auto transmission.

Well I have found out when to back it off even more than just the defuel on all shifts mode. You can watch the boost, and you can tell when to back out and feather it a bit more. After it locks, then you can give it more. Pretty easy really. Now one thing I also do is when I tow its only running the edge on level 2. You have to have brains in this matter. As you well know. Plus some trannys are just stronger than others. I have seen this first hand as well.

WHY ? for god sake would anyone trust GM after single handenly killing the diesel?
the 6.2 gutless headgasket blower the 6.5 turbo that cracks blocks at the crank plus a list that goes on for ever, or the first one 350 cid ...I REST MY CASE!
I towed my buddies brand new D- max to the chevy dealer last month. He came up from L A to visit ,only made it to sacramento before smoke started pouring out from under the hood( Diesel coming out of the dip stick tube) Im not real savy on the dmax but i have fixed more gm diesel then most people will ever see. if you buy a truck ...chevy,ford or dodge all of them will have a ***** in there parts but you will not find an engine as tough or reliable as the 5.9 cummins, period.

I was talkin with a guy today about his TDi, (VW), and he was impressed with how much I knew about diesel. He asked If I owned a TDi and I said "No" I have a real diesel, a CUMMINS. He preceeded to tell me how his low mileage Duramax (GMC) has had 3 motors put in, THAT'S RIGHT, 3 motors! That really makes our lift pump, Vp44, problems minor.

sounds like a dealer that didn't know how to diagnose the problem

I call BS. A truck is getting poor mileage so the dealer put in a new motor 3 different times? GM would not allow 3 new motors to be put in any truck for any reason. The truck probably just needed the fuel filter changed.

No, no, no! The engines werent replaced because of fuel mileage, He has "low" miles on the truck. The engines were replaced because of mechanical failure, internal.

what kind of mechanical failures? let me guess - warped heads, blown headgaskets, bent rods?

Other than injectors the Duramax is almost bulletproof.

I've been dragracing, truckpulling, towing heavy and beating the $%^& out of mine for over 100,000 miles w/o a single problem (original headgaskets, injectors, turbo, ect.)

i dont know of any problems with the duramax other than it still needs time to prove itself...the high revs bother me...it seems "unnatural" for a diesel and then i start to doubt longevity....prices to fix anything in a chev duramax/allison is ridiculous...enjoy the warranty while u can!...but then again the price of fixing anything in a new truck is high...thank god i can fix almost darn near anything on my lil 12 valve myself gotta love mechanical parts

good luck
