Potential Cheap Dodge Diesel, some help thou:

Well I found a pretty rough 1995 Dodge 2500 4x4 Reg Cab longbed. Outside the truck is pretty rough, bumper is a little bent, paint flake here and there, and few other "pretty" items. Next thou is the tranny in the ad it says somthing about reverse being a little unhappy if used for a long distance (not sure what that could mean), but also the engine has 252k on it. So the price is 4k obo, do you think this truck is worth say 3k as is?

My other techie question is I have my old 88 chevy with a th350 in it. think that tranny could hold the torque of a cummins with a new convertor, my tranny has roughly 30k on it.

Well I'm not really sure about that one. I have a 1965 Buick Skylark with a little 300 cubic inch Buick V8 and I've gone through 3 TH-350's already. Granted 2 were classified ad specials, but one was actually rebuilt and beefed up but still barely lasted a year. The engine is fairly strong, cam, intake and head work; but doesn't come close to the torque and even the vibration of a cummins turbo diesel. Maybe somebody else has better luck with them but I wouldn't trust a TH350 behind a CTD...

Replacement auto trans will be between $3-4k, have a friend with a 95 2wd, just had his replaced. You have to decide if the rest of the truck is worth it. Take it to a mechanic and let the look it over, and CARFAX it as well. I doubt an "automotive" trans will hold up next to a CTD.

Yep, replacement new trans, $3-4k. Might as well get a "bulletproof" GB, DTT, BD, or Suncoast. Or get a rebuilt for around half that, do a shift kit and good TC, and good to go, as long as you're only doing mild mods. You may even find a good used one in a "recycling" yard.
It's probably worth $3-3500, no rust in Ca. Using you're th350 would cost as much as buying the right trans in the first place.
If the body's straight, and just needs painted, thats easy. Bumpers always get bent, build a new better one. Check the suspension real good, track bar, ball joints, etc.

Jump on that. I looked for a year and couldn't find a first generation, 2 wheel drive for that price.

That price is extradorinary, provided the engine runs and the tranny shifts.

Jump on it now.
