went to go start my 04 ford diesel and got nothing. i think its the starter but am not 100% sure, i tried tapping it with a hammer and still got nothing. when you go to crank the engine it sounds like theres a lil ticking coming from the area where the starter is. any help or info would be appreciated. if it is the starter how complicated is it to change out or rebuild. thanks

 

Try charging your batery. Clicking starter is usually a deaD bat.

 

sry i didnt make it more clear but i did charge both my batteries and still nothing.

 

Take a test light to the trigger lead on the starter and have someone try to start it, see if the test light lights when they turn the key to the start position. If it lights and the starter does not engage then do the same on the main + lug on the starter. If both light then suspect a starter. If the test light does not light then we have to dig deeper. Report back what you find.

 

so i went to go do the test light yesterday and just for the hell of it i tried starting the truck it cranked and fired right up. so today i went to start it and it did the same thing it was doing which is nothin. so i got out the test light and tried that and the bulb did not light up. i am not sure if i did this wrong in anyway or if there is just something else wrong. i made sure that all the connections were clean when trying the light and it still did nothing. any help would be really appreciated

 

Do you have a FOB key for this truck?
