Nice Cat 2micron filter setup.
Thanks for the tip. If you look at the pictures above, you can see the O Ring on the Cat filter stick out from the pad on the filter head. It is the black ring betwee the Cat filter and the head. Does it do that with the FG filter ? Or does the head cover the FG filter better ?
Is the FG filter a similar height ? How much was it ?
Thanks.

You can see that the filter fits the head pretty well. The length of the filter is 7 inches. It's diameter is 3.68in. The overall length with the head and the filter is 8.5 inches.
The filter was 12.95 and the head was 26.95. Both from a local Fleetguard dealer.

SD, I like the way that you fabed up your mounting plate however I would be concerned about the aluminum 'stress cracking' along the heater housing. Maybe a strap of some sort on the outboard edge would give some added support. JAT

Donaldson P174769. Should be about $24. (It was in my post on page 1... not that it matters.)
Stress cracking ? That is 1/8" aluminum plate. 4 inches wide. The head and filter full of fuel weigh 3-4 pounds. I'm not too worried about stress cracking. If I do see a crack, I'll report it.

OK - I know I'm showing my ignorance here, but wouldn't it also work to just find a 2 micron replacement for the stock fuel filter (same dimensions, etc.)? Or is that the problem - that doesn't exist?
Not trying to be a smart-alec, just asking the quesiton.

Try the part # without the dash before the "S"
Unfortunatly I can't use Superduty's mounting location under the intake tube on my 04.5. The speed control linkage is mounted right there. Apparently the automatics have this linkage controlled with a motor mounted under the battery tray. The manuals have their speed control controlled by the ecm.
I'm trying to see if I can figure out a way to mount a bracket from the battery tray to hold the filter. Not sure if I can get it to work.

tidbit: I think all the 05s are ECM controlled, auto or manual. Lets put it this way. All the 05s use a throttle position sensor that mounts in the cab under the accelerator pedal.
I thought about mounting my filter on the frame, but I didn't want the filter to move relative to the frame as it would wear on the hoses. I guess the supply and return lines do this without a problem, so maybe the filters lines could too.
truckjunkie: I wanted the same thing. I couldn't find it. Then I was told that 2 micron is pretty fine for a primary filter, that running 2 is better anyway.
There is a blurb about it here:
