New 2007 6.7l owner

So I purchased a new to me diesel yesterday. I know really very very little about diesel engines and trucks...I know the basics. What I did notice is that my computer was telling me that there were 2 issues one being regeneration of exhaust filter was in process, that I know what that is. The 2nd is that the vehicle needed an oil change/perform service. I asked when the last time it was changed was and the place i bought it responded with " we've had it for 2 weeks we bought it at auction and theres no record of last oil change." So I figured I should probably change it.

I dont have a manual so What oil/filter should I use? Can I change it myself like I do in my Gas powered Trans Am? Is there a good place to find a maintenance manual for how to properly take care of my new truck?

Any help and advice for a new owner would be appreciated

Welcome to the DTR!!
The 3rd Gen area has specific posting areas for the 6.7L engine and its maintenance advice.

You can get a Factory Service Manual if you are hard core from Genos Garage that would tell you more than you would ever need to know. Hopefully the owners manual is still in the truck, that has alot of good information.

If the Overhead display is telling to regen, you are near having the DPF being full and its going to be an issue soon. You need to take the truck out on a good 1 hour drive at highway/freeway speed to ensure a full regen takes place.

The oil change display is due on 2 things. 1 is time since the last service (reset by turning the ignition key to the "on" position and fully depressing the accellerator 3 times). 2 is driving time on the engine and load. If the truck is in regen alert and oil change interval, it must have been a town driven truck with no load or road speeds.

Changing the oil is like any other vehicle, just more capacity. Genos also carries full filter packages if you wish or you can get filters from Dodge or any Cummins dealer (Frieghtliner, etc) with the proper part number.

Good luck!
