My oil analysis
I'm not trying to be a smart [EDIT] here, but with all you K&N bashers out there, you all got me thinking a bit about my intake system. I changed my oil on 8-27-05 and had 5k on the oil. The oil was Wal-Mart SuperTech 15w40 Universal Motor Oil and the filter was a Wal-Mart SuperTech filter also!!!! Here is the results of my analysis......
WEAR METALS Aluminum..............7 Chromium.............<2 Copper.................8 Iron......................21 Lead.....................3 Tin........................6 Silicon....................5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! Potassium................4 Sodium....................7 Moly.......................2 PHYSICAL PROPERTIES Water.................<0.1 Oxidation...............<2.0 Vics@100...............14.5 Glycol...................ND Fuel......................<2.0 TBN......................9.8 Nitration................<2.0 Soot.....................0.6 So what do all you K&N bashers have to say about this report?????????!!!!!!!! Any replies are appreciated!!!! [rant] |

So, did I do a one of them K&N bash things???
Or did I find plain old dirt?? [redface] |
I've been using K&Ns on both my trucks for over ten years, never had one oil analysis silicon come back over 5 ppm. I only service the K&Ns every 100k.
Only reason I can figure why people bash K&N is because they don't know how to install and service them correctly or they are just parroting something they heard elsewhere. |

I agree also. Everyone is using an AFE, which is the same filter, which is made by engineers who were fired from K&N "AFE" All Fired Engineers!!!!!!!!! :o |
OK, remove your intake tube after the turbo, stick your finger in, wipe
it around the see what you get...... a dirty finger! I would bet your a non-smoker too...... right. [laugh] |

That was with the stock filter from the factory on a new truck...it had 9700 kilometers on it when I discovered that. So I say...run away...far away from the factory filters...they leak dirt. :p |
Air filters
Well for what I have heard the K&N's don't meet the Cummins tests for abaility to stop particles and to hold the dust particles. Which air filter gets dirtier faster???? As for sodium you might not be living in an area that uses as much as in other areas. [coffee]

Sodium comes from anti-freeze leaking into the oil, not road salt.

Just curious....is that Wally World Oil rated for Diesels? Thought it was just for gassers.... [eyecrazy] |
