my 2005 dodge cummins got stolen and now I have a ford with problems

hey fellas I was wondering if you all can help me out here ... PLEASE NOTE I LOVED MY TRUCK AND HAD TO FIND DIFFERENT FROM CUMMINS
I bought a 2001 ford250 powerstroke with the 7.3 that has only 46,000 miles on it . i sent my
wife who is a mechanic to check this truck out she said it was all and some . i paid 18,000 for it . when she got
home i checked it out . first i found the thermostat gasket is leaking . then I found some old oil around the starter looks like
its coming from somewhere above . then when taking off it rattled and then smoothed out . and does that every time .
wife says its the lift and limited diff .
then when letting off the pedal it screeches . after getting back home i popped the hood and snagged
the oil dip stick and find that there's a little smoke coming out . can ya help me out .is this something or nothing .
thanks.

As far as the leaks go look in the valley and check and make sure nothing is leaking. There is a hole in the valley at the back right side of motor that lets everything drain back to the starter area.Could just be a bad oring on a sensor like the ipr or something easy.

Turbo pedestal o-ring, common leak. Your rattle could be a flex plate. You can pull the inspection plate on the bell housing then run the engine and look at the flex plate to see if it is wobbling. This is also a common problem on that engine. When you say rattled, did you mean shudder, as in driveline shudder? I would not sweat it, the 7.3 is an excellent engine. Let us know what you find. I will be happy to help out any way I can.

Maybe oil leak around starter is dripping down from plugs on backside of the cylinder heads for the high pressure oil that feeds the unit injectors??? I replaced those on a PS once and stopped most of the rear engine oil leaks.

it only does it the first 5 sec's into acceleration ..
and about the swap . I looked and looked for another of the same and nothing could compare . so I went different . I heard if its gonna be a ford make it a 7.3 and i did .. as of right now my babe called in some favors and got her crew working on it at the shop . as I know the u-joints were shot and the diff needed service . my wife was very distraught that i got a ford . she is one of the few that are cert. masters around here and she is a mopar junkie but she understands why I went in this direction . it just took me getting really ****** off that I spent 18,000.00 cash for troubles before she stepped in and is helping out . I could tell you any thing you want to know about mining equip. or fabrication but when it comes to our vehicles I learned to just let her do her thing . a little twisted ain't but think about this . hot chick sitting on top of an engine getting greasy and tell me you wouldn't do the same .

at least it is the 7.3
if you gotta pull stuff off the top of the motor going after oil leaks, replace the the fuel filter drain petcock and the boost tube rubbers while its apart
they have a habit of devolping leaks.IIFC the turbo pedestal is another good place for oil leaks

I am assuming its got the Auto trans
First gear only??
I wonder if the Fluid and filter have ever been changed(low/incorrect fluid causing Clutch pack slip/chatter)
but I have always avoided messing withFord Autos

yeah it is an auto trans . I checked the trans fluid after running around a bit and smelt great but was very low . my wife said it was the angle of the driveway . when she checked it prior it was fine but I'll double check . thanks bud

More Fluid capacity is the biggest thing along with better cooling, deeper sump may be less affected by angle

I've been trying to get away from autos all together...
My wifes next truck will hopefully be equiped with a NV5600

Your pinion angle is the most likely culprit for the drive line shudder. You may need to lower the carrier bearing contact point by as much as 3". Ford had some shudder issues right from the factory with the crew cab long beds. For what its worth you can get carrier bearing spacers from ford, the kit comes with new bolts also.

Nice truck, I miss my 7.3 Excursion.
