? on my 2002 Powerstroke

Wel here recently i started driving my work truck home which is a Forf F550 7.3 all the time now and its been gettin real cold down here and it hard starting the old ford stroker. If it has a heater block cord where would i find the plug at? I have searched everywhere under the hood and cant find anything. It has 251,000 miles and it runs good after about ten mins every morning trying to get it fired up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...O yea i didnt trade in the ol dodge for this truck, just something to drive to keep the miles off my nice truck.

My dad has an 04 King Ranch Powerstroke that is his farm truck and that he drives for work when its muddy. He won't drive his 07 Dodge when it has rained. I can't blame him, I wouldn't either. The heater cord on his comes out around the tow hook on the drivers side. So it is on that side of the truck somewhere. I will try to look and find out to see exactly where it is.

Your gonna have to get on your back to find it, Lay under the front bumper, it is secured to an inside lip of the lower part of the bumper, you can usually see the plastic serated push clip ends (gray) sticking through holes on the high point of lip, just feel for the cord, it is usualy tied to itself from the factory so its hard to find the first time.

I would bet money it has 1 or more bad glow plugs. I have had 2 different 7.3 p/strokes and had to put glow plugs in both on a couple different occasions. Even if you don't plug it in, it should start right up. just doesn't sound good when it fires off. Watch your volt meter when you first turn the key to the "on" position. If the meter doesn't drop low then it could also be the glow plug relay. They are known to fail also.

The block heater plug on my 04 was hidden behind the passenger side tow hook. You need a small hand and a wire cutter to cut the zip ties. I would also change the oil to a lighter weight if it has 15-40 in it. Keith

I second the oil comment. The HEUI system uses oil pressure to fire the injectors. If you have heavy 15-W40 in there, it takes longer to build oil pressure on the starter and will cause hard starting.. Run a good 5-W40 year round and it should help out a tad on the cold starts... IMHO of course..
