This engine was never put into production and even more astounding the concept was never put into production. Kind of makes me wonder if there is indeed an energy conspiracy? Really cool design none the less. For all you diesel horse power junkies wouldn't that be a cool add on? Little turbine hooked to your tail pipe??

Quantum has been reported and soon to be taken care of.

This is a cool idea even though it never saw the light of day. In a way there is conspiricy to keep us all on an oil glut. If tomorrow, our whole nation used just 50% of it's intake of fuel and derived that 50% from bio fuels, ethanol, synthetics, or other non crude sources, many many people world wide would be out of work (me being one of them) and a world wide economic collapse would ensue. So there is a reason why the oil, gas, car, and transportation industries weild so much power and influence.

Don't worry, this will come no doubt with big oil being one of the driving forces once they have they're hand in the pockets of the alt. energy producers. Cause they need a stake in what is surely to be the next evolution of energy sources. Then we all get to whine and complain about "Big" bio and "Big" ethanol. Instead of "Big" Oil.

What killed this engine is ROI (Return On Investment). Very complex engine to build and service. The jet turbine engine was starting to be proven in the aviation industry at this period as a simpler engine to produce. Also aircaft designs took advantage of the slimer turbine engines.

I believe back in the '80's Volvo experimented with turbo compound diesel engines in trucks. Don't know what happened to those experiments.
