Mack E6 300 in frame

I have a mack DM dump truck and would like to do an in frame rebuild on it.Has anybody on here done this before.I know its a dry sleeve motor,and would like to know how the sleeves are r&r.Does anyone know of any special tools needed for such a task. I know everything is available from Mack but other allternatives would be cheaper.I have done many complete rebuilds on gas motors but have yet to attempt a diesel. Any advice would help.Thanks

If it has DRY sleeves, you have to press them out, i have never seen that done in frame, if it has WET sleeves, they are easy to change. for the rest of it , i can't really help you.

I've done a couple Mack engines, mostly out of frame though. The E6 engine has dry liners, so you will need the special puller to remove them. There is a flat plate with a notch cut in either side of it that fits the bottom lip of the liner. I rigged up a puller using a hydraulic push-pull ram and got 5 of them out that way, but #6 was too close to the firewall so I hand wrenched that one out. Be aware that you have to pull the liners out about 8 inches before you can remove them by hand, they are very long winded! Also be VERY careful of the piston cooling nozzles. It can be done with them in place but it is highly adviseable to remove them before piston and liner removal! After your liner bores are clean (spotless) you can reinstall the liners. This is where I cheat. I put the new liners in dry ice and freeze them. Once they are dropped in the holes, I use large washers and bolts to hold the liner down as it comes up to room temp. This prevents the liner from coming back up as it warms. Anyways, if you have any questions or concerns feel free to PM me. I'm not an expert, but I have done a few overhauls on the old Macks!

If it has a block heater,plug it in before you install the liners,warm block and cold liners, they will fall in
