Ditto on what Spooler said... I have been trying to just give people the benefit of the doubt for a couple years now...IT AIN'T WORKIN'!!!..
I thought for the longest time that most people didn't realize or understand... but now that I've woke up.. I have realized that people just don't care!. The place I buy fuel for my personal truck has 12 pumps that are for strictly gasoline's..(still not sure why we have 3 grades of gas with modern technology.. but thats a different rant!) There are two pumps, FUTHEREST from the store, that have gas and diesel... for the most part its never a problem.
In my company truck, when I run into that situation where they are just sitting there, I put my front bumper about a foot off of their bumper and hope somebody gets infront of them at the next pump!!!.. This has happened several times... Its great when they have another inconsiderate "person" pull infront of them and i'm behind them!!.. You should try this move sometime, its great therapy!.

I've been in similar situations myself, and they really tick me off.

But the original post, that happening in Chapel Hill, that's great, even better than if it happened in Cary. Maybe it's something in the water up there

This always happens to me!

I guess gassers just don't think about the fact that there is only 1 diesel pump at the station.

One of these days when I win the lottery I'm going to build a gass station with 9 pumps and only one of them with gass all the other ones are going to be diesel. One time I was pulling the 5'ver had to stop at the last station in Tenn. and no exits for 16 miles in NC. This station has only one pump and it is on the end. I had to tun the truck and trailer around to get to the pump. I am almost around when a gasser flys in and takes the only pump with diesel. The bad thing about it os the pump is on the far outside and we were the only two people there. I hate when that happens.

The station I frequent has both gas and diesel at the same island. I’m a cash and carry type of person so I am forced to prepay before filling up. There has been several times where I walk up to the counter and have to wait in line for several minutes before I can prepay. Sometime this has taken 10 minutes while the costumer in front of me is buying lottery tickets, smokes and carrying on a conversation for directions. Meanwhile other trucks have lined up at my pump and I can see angry steam rising from their windows. After I fuel up I always pull away for the island before going back for change but the next truck cannot start fueling until I get my change and the pump gets reset. This can take another 5 minutes depending on the line.

The real problem here is the lowlifes who drive off without paying causing this whole prepay mess. If fuel weren’t approaching the price of gold it probably wouldn’t be a problem. So cut me some slack if you are wondering why I’m taking so long. It isn’t always the fault of the customer.

Yep I normally fill up at the local Petro Canada for the same reasons (nice store, diesel pumps used lots etc etc). Lots of times I come around the corner and see all the gasser pumps empty and the diesel pumps (they are next to gas pumps) blocked in by some yuppy in their soccer mom SUV. I don't understand it. Maybe just maybe, some smart guy will open a diesel only fuel station chain? Wait, that might not work since morons would still pull up with their gassers and wonder why the pump won't turn on...

Filling station etiquette could use some changes... I've switched stations because of constant 'run-ins' with ill placed gassers. I used to fill up in a smaller local town about 5 miles from my house in the 'big city'... They have probably 12 pumps, 6 islands with 2 pumps... only 1 island for diesel and it also had unleaded. Of course, the only island with diesel was also the closest to the entrance/exit... for good reason though, hard to get those grain wagons in otherwise. I was cut off numerous times by folks trying to get to that one island... quick in, quick out... and had plenty of idle time waiting for joe cool to pay up for his 30 bucks in 87 octane. It's really like they don't understand that it's the only island with a diesel handle. They stare at you bumping to tunes with the diesel clattering away like you're a vampire.... I've actually asked a woman if she could pull to a different pump before she could start filling up her *******' wagon.

The station I fill up now is considerably larger as it's in Wichita proper.... one of the few in the city of 350,000 that sells diesel. There are twice as many diesel handles at this station... a grand total of 4... but I've never waited for a pump in 18 months of filling up there.

My new irritation with filling up is the $75 shutoff... come on now, with diesel at $3.19 per, that's only 23.5 gallons of fuel... I use my debit card so it's not like I can stiff the station... let me have my 26 or 27 gallons worth.

I always pull away from the pump when I'm finished too. It's just common courtesy and sense but there's not much of that around anywhere. You could get a debit card, use it out at the pump just like a credit card, and save yourself the hassle of dummies that take forever to pay for their cokes and candy.

Yeah no doubt. Like just 5 years ago you could pump then go in and pay cash no problems. But the gas stations just don't trust people anymore. But you can't hardly blame them.

I want to have a station with 10-15 diesel pumps and one with both and then take and old 91 dodge I have ( no motor or trans but body is all there) and park it at the only gas pump and leave it there forever. All day every day to watch gas guys drive up and get mad about some old diesel truck at the only gas pump at the place. But to tell the truth I realy dont think 99% of them realise that we only have a few pumps that we can use and that they are in the way, some do and dont care but I realy dont think most realy know.

Yeah, the shutoff is VERY annoying because I have a 75 gallon tank. I wait until I need about 60 gallons before I fill up (once a month generally).

When I fill up at the TCA on the gas island, there are only two diesel spots. I had just started to fill up, when a tow truck pulled in behind me. I went and told him that I would be awhile and he'd probably want to pull around to the other spot (which was open). He didn't say anything; he just looked at me.

The pump clicked off and he put his truck in gear. I swiped my card and started filling again. He started fuming in his truck.

Even when you try to be helpful, they act stupid.

Some stations won't let you swipe your card a third time and you have to go inside which takes even longer.

Kinda makes you wish you had train horns... one quick blast of 120db's would get their butts in gear!!!

The Pilot in town has a $50 shutoff...what the is that!!! I can't even get a half a tank out of that.

I don't get this entitled attitude many show here. Just because you own a diesel, doesn't make you any more important than a guy or gal with a gas burner. Sure it would be nice if everyone would just move out of your way so you could get your fuel. That just isn't going to happen.

Using your noisy diesel motor to try to intimidate or annoy someone is childish at best. I could care less if you truck is louder, taller, chromier (is that a word?), smokier or faster that whatever I'm driving. For you to try to impress the attributes of your truck on someone else's life will no doubt just increase that persons dislike for diesel owners.

You want some courtesy? Try showing some to others first. It goes a long way sometimes. You might be surprised by the result.

I agree they may be being childish, but, blocking the only diesel pump in a station when you need gas & there are 15 gas pumps open is still rude & inconsiderate.

I'm usually "one away" at most when I fuel at Wally World (best price and huge parking lot) - and even that is due to the gassers taking the ONLY diesel island at the station.

If I start to wonder what the delay is at the pump, I get out and see if there's anything I can do to help them move on... real neighbor-like. They get the message.

Several weeks ago there was a couple of yahoos moving cross country in a U-Haul truck and minivan, taking up both sides of the diesel pump - after refueling - while the dude got a toolbox out, crawled under the truck and started taking stuff off! Looked like something on the rear suspension... BUT, the truck was running, so he could've moved off to the vast reaches of the Wally World parking lot!
