.(They had diesel at the same pump ) It dawned on her when the CTD started losing power so she drove it on home and called the dealer to pick it up . Cost her over $400 and I wouldn't want the truck after that . So headed for the big D and she gets the Jeep and I get the palace .

We traded a 02 Durango in on the lib. We did take somewhat of a loss. Dealer had a full lot of used Durnago's with 4.7's and hemi's. Back in september when we traded, fuel prices shot up and everyone was trading into smaller cars.
So far with 15k on the clock, the little liberty gets between 22 and 27 mpg. Only seen 27 on one tank of fuel. The fuel quality these days is very poor.
I have 21,500 miles on my Jeep turbo-diesel now. Off-road, towing 3 tons, stop-and-go, lots of highway, you name it I've done it. Zero mechanical failures so far. I love this thing. My only real complaint is a lack of room for my feet. More leg room and this would be the perfect SUV.
Yes, the MP-8 made by TS Performance will work in the Jeep. Also, Bullydog, TST, and some others are working on tuners for it. There are some foreign companies like Van Aiken (sp?) that have tuners out already. I've heard of 400 lb./ft. of torque in these Jeeps with a tuner. Pretty impressive considering it's an I-4 engine and gets mileage in the 20s.
Plus, the free-flow muffler helped my turbo spool faster. I think these things would make even more power if they didn't have EGR and stupid belt-driven accessories like the supplemental viscous heater...

We've got an 05 limited . so far with 17k miles it's been a real pleasure . It did have an early EGR related problem ,but it was taken care of quickly.
My wife uses it as her daily commuter (100 miles round trip ) 4 days a week .
Overall I'm very impressed with it and the dealer . So much so that I'm about to make a deal on a 2500CTD for myself .

We have an '05 limited CRD, We love it. It is also getting 20-22 around town and 25-26 on highway. It has about 6000 miles on it.
We've had a couple of problems, 1) factory routed the wire loom to lights wrong and it got against exhaust pipe and melted some wires. Kept blowning fuses for tail lights and you could replace the fuse drive a few miles and it would blow again. Took about 3 times in the shop to find actual problem. 2) Egr valve decided to go south about month back. Nothing since then.
We are thinking about selling it because we have way too many rides, 7 total and only 2 drivers, figure that out, yes we're nuts. Doing this would take away a large payment. The 05 was the last year for the long warranty, that should be a point to promote the sell.

Love mine so far....had the EGR replacement done around 11k miles; currently at 23k miles and no more EGR problems. Had the "shudder" that most CRD owners complain about (mine predominantly around 40---50 mph w/OD off)....dealer performed a dual transmission filter change, still present; replaced the torque convertor, a tad better; then got a re-flash (TSB 18-023-06) and all seems to be well. I've noticed with the re-flash that the torque convertor only winds up about 200 rpm prior to lock-up as opposed to 500 rpm or so prior to lock-up....the speed is closer to 55 mph at lock-up versus 58+ mph before. The lower ball joints were recalled, too. Given the amount of "nit-picky" problems with the CRD, I still love it. We previously owned an '02 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4 w/3.7L and auto and 17.8>>17.9 mpg was tops 95% of the time--the other 5% would maybe net 18.1>>18.2>>18.3 if you were lucky. 470--480 miles per tank w/CRD really beats 270--290 w/3.7L gasser.

I'm sure you heard the CRD will not be available in the Liberty in '07 due to emissions regs . Thanks for the heads up on the recall for ball joints . My wife hadn't been notified yet . Hopefully she hasn't ruined a set of tires yet . (10,000 miles ) . After ball joint problems on her '99 Durango I swore I'd never buy another Chrysler product - then bought an '04 dually and had both front wheel bearings go out before 70,000 miles . With that , a rear seal , speed sensor and other defects I spent over $2,000 on the truck in Feb. '05 . Yes it was a Dodge , and yes I had it in for every scheduled service .
I've got a CRD engine sitting here in the yard....got it cheap, cuz da insurance guy totalled the vehicle. Wasn't mine, but a neighbor lady who swerved to avoid hitting a deer. And so I've got the engine to drop inta an old Jeep Commanche.
On edit: I had numerous problems with the last three 3500's I bought - lower ball joints and rear seals which weren't covered. I have nothing but 2500's on the farm and for personal highway vehicles and they've never had a lick of trouble.

Wife drives an 06 Libby sport. It's her daily, so I only drive it really on the weekends. It's got about 6k on the clock with no return trips to the dealer.
One thing I will say about it is, I HATE THE TRANSMISSION! it has the 'shudder' thats been mentioned before and it is annoying! And from everything I've read DCX doesn't have an honest to goodness fix for it. Yeah, they have "Band-Aid" repairs. But nothing I've seen fixes it for good.
If it wasn't for the tranny, I'd be 95% satisfied with it.

2K6 CRD Lib Ltd. The TC is the problem...low-quality unit that makes everything else hiccup/shudder....crappy/weak lock-up clutch in the 545RFE's TC. Many of the CRD guys over at L.O.S.T. are hooking up with a diesel performance company in Florid to make a billet TC unit that will take all the VM Motori's 295ft-lbs of torque and allow a bit of spare room to bomb them.
I got the CRD as a stop-gap until I can manage a nice 2500 2x4 Megacab shortbox in the future. Aside from the tranny's TC issue (and the inevitable EGR issues) the CRD is pretty good. It tows 5000lbs with very little complaint...not bad for a Jeep that everyone talks about as a soccer mom's daily driver. A RAV-4 or CR-V, it is not -- it's a 4300lb, trail-rated Jeep with a nice, 165hp/295ft-lb diesel in its belly.
Oh, I get pretty lousy mileage (14-15mpg city/19-20hwy) right now as there's a PCM issue that the dealer is trying to fix...possilby linked to a poorly done flash...I used to get 29-30 on the hwy, and 21-22 in the city. Grrr.
