General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

The perfect explanation of "victimhood," as it relates to personal responsibility.

http://www.producerrevolution.com/mindset.html

Don't get caught up in a defeatist mentality. So, it sucks the truck you bought is having dead-pedal issues. Plenty of help, advice, assistance and research right here on the DTR forum to help you get up and running again. And, it won't cost you thousands of dollars nor will your truck if you heed the advice, fix it right, and motor on.

VP44 failures are way overstated on this and other forums. Most
trucks never have a problem. First thing I did to my truck was
to install a fuel pressure gauge. After all my mods and 80,000
miles of play and towing, I've only replaced one lift pump

Dieselcamper - I am at 115k with EZ, elbow, RV275's, straight-piped and (should I dare say it?) no F.P. gauge!

The dealer replaced 1 LP at ~ 45k with no argument, no fuss. The fuel system has not been touched (except filter replacement) since then.

Yes, I know I need a F.P. gauge, but I always find someplace else to spend the money.

I think this has a lot to do with the fact that people don't generally seek out forums IF they don't have issues. Those that do seek out forums, either have problems or are genuinely interested in the vehicle they have or want versus the average Joe who bought his truck to be a pure work horse.

When was the last time you saw a new user make a post declaring he's never had VP problems?

So, in short, I agree with you. It probably just seems exaggerated by the lack of users who have never had a problem.

I feel your pain

These trucks are crap as they come from the factory.
having to mod the hell out of them just so they will stay together is crap.
that said,I love this POS.
If I could just get three wishes...

I've never had a problem with my truck other than
other people getting in my way as I climb Donner Pass
at 6500 ft. towing my trailer at 70 mph

I guess the "most trucks" in this statement would be the pre 98.5 P pump trucks, and the 03 up common rail ones. While the drivability is nice, overall the VP suchs.

In 1999 I bought a brand new fully loaded QC Dodge Dually, w. Cummins-Automatic. I put the first 54K on the clock then sold it to my father in-law. It now has close to 200K on it, and it hauls hay and livestock 2 or 3 times a week, every week. It has had the fuel filter replaced twice since it was new, and has NEVER had any fuel related issues. Oh wait, it did need a new oil press. sending unit at 48K, 2 new batterys at 54K, and a ABS wheel sensor at 90K. Whew, I don't see how I ever made it anywhere in this truck.

had a guy with the dead pedal, he dumped in some oil into the fuel tank, and fixed the problem!

Now im not sure what kinda oil, (I think Auto tranny oil) Correct me if im wrong.

Before we knew better, we ran a 24v with 0 psi all the time (lp was dead) for like 10,000 miles! Didnt have a mayor VP problem!

Correct your fuel pressure issue! and lubricate that inj pump

I know somone who has a 2000 qc 3500 it has over 100,000 and pulls a 10k lbs horse trailer on a regular basis. They have accedently put gass in it on three occasions and it still has the factory vp44 in it. Ive been waiting fo it to go out but its been a year now since the last mistake and its still running.

ok everyone knows that the stock lift pump location is garbage. When i bought mine ,I didnt even drive the truck until I had guages, then I saw that fuel pressure was down so I got the vulcan kit and a new pump. Now it is one of the best trucks Ive ever owned.Personally I cant believe anyone drives their 24v without proper fuel pressure, its a simple fact that if you arent cooling the ip with enough fuel then it will die.theres so much knowledge on these forums about little problems .If you are a long hauler the carry spare parts with you .I also think anyone that drives their truck long distances should know how to fix them on the side of the road by themselves and should have the tools on board to do so.No one ever said the 24v were perfect,I wish I would have bought another 12v too,but the 24v is such a better truck to drive
