Hope you're not expecting a new Isuzu diesel anytime soon..
good lord, i can hardly see as how 80,000 miles on a truck engine with no blown head gaskets really says that much about whether there's a problem or not. Check back in a couple hundred thousand miles.
80,000 miles SHOULD be just getting broken in, and intact head gaskets at that point should be a given. If I worked in a dealer, on new and almost new trucks and had already seen 4 or 5 blown head gaskets, I would think that might mean something.
Not to get into the nitty gritty that you guys are hashing over, but I couldn't help but say something about the "80K and no bad head gaskets thing". For that kind of money, I would sure hope so! Have our expectations been lowered so far?

Fact is, if I claim my truck runs great, it doesn't mean a thing about the overall product. Just as an 80k mile Duramax means nothing about the overall product.
And for the record, I never said the Duramax was a bad engine. But the Duramax is not the stellar product that the Cummins engine is, and certainly it does not have the product reputation and track record of the B series, or of Cummins itself. As I said before, Isuzu was why the Duramax is what it is, and the GM people ought to thank Isuzu for that.

Wow, Its crazy how fast these posts can turn awkward. I think ite time for the D-Max to start getting some respect. After all I'm glad to finnaly see some competition for our trucks
i think there's something wrong with the board....i clicked on an isuzu getting out of the us car business thread, and found a thread containing argument over duramax aluminum cylinder heads.....who cares?
Here is what gets me, Every truck has its issues, weather it be engine or transmission. I sure we could make a list of each maker(GM, ford, Dodge) and find plenty wrong with each generation, sometimes its hit or miss, you get a good one, the next guy down gets a bad one. I doubt there is any best as they all have issues, and well one may be better in area then the next, PesonalL I would like to see a Ford F350 megacab cummins. The only reason I choose my cummins is that Dodge was the easiest to find a Manual transsmission in.
