Hey all! Drove a Dodge Cummins for the first time!
My dad borrowed a friends truck to help haul some luggage for some students visiting from Mexico. It was a 1999 2500 clubcab short bed with a 5 speed. The friend owns a contracting firm and also has a 2004 Ram 3500 that he just took delivery of.
Anyways, it was love at first drive. It blew away all my expectations, both in town and on the highway (got her to 100 mph at one point on a deserted stretch of road on the Mexican side of the border!
). Rode like a Cadillac and sounded like a Kenworth. I had flashbacks back to when I was a truck driver. I said if he ever feels like selling it, to let me know.

I said to myself a few years ago, from being in the auto parts business and seeing what some of the outrageous parts pricing was for diesels, that there'd be no way I'd EVER own a diesel.
Times do change though!!! Due to a job change, and starting to commute about 40 miles one way, I traded my 97 Chevy gasser for a 2000 jetta TDI. Love it.
Due to another career change, I started pulling RV's, and bought my Cummins.
Long story short, don't think I'll ever go back to a gasser.
One thing I've noticed, you can dump a couple grand into a diesel for extra performance, and REALLY do something! The same amount into a gasser, and you'd have to go to a timed test track to tell if there was a diff!

It only makes sense...why drive something that sucks down the gas at 12 mpg unloaded when you could drive something that gets almost twice the mileage w/ no load? And it'll haul anything you put behind it easily w/o hurting your wallet, unlike gassers. Wanna make it go faster? Don't worry about rebuilding the engine for more torque/HP...all the necessary parts are there...you just have to unlock the potential!
