Interesting reading Scotty. The two cycle Detroits were known for coming apart from antifreeze. They had several trouble spots, one that ours have. That is the oil cooler. Most Detroit failures came from bad wet liner seals which would dribble over time. Antifreeze eats babbit. I have seen several with this problem. I believe the service manual for the 71 and 92 series deals with the visual effects on used bearings. Think I still have a couple, will look when I think of it. I know I have seen compairative pictures of the damage from antifreeze.
The detroits also had water ports in the block that had O ring type seals, the block would crack in these ports and drip into the oil pan. I fixed several of these.
I think we have little to worry about with the "throwaway" style block in the B engine. The wet liners always have a good chance of the problem.
